You’re partly right and partly wrong here. You’re right in that the guys and outfits your reference do look great, but you’re wrong that this is new. This trend towards more understated, classic American menswear has been happening for years. The “alphas” you reference don’t represent mainstream menswear at all. You’re also wrong that guys can’t pull off Mets hats. Other than the Yankees, Dodgers and Tigers, the Mets have the best hats in baseball. Surprisingly versatile.
Yo! So the common thread here was more that a lot of guys are entirely unaware of the vast history of the menswear space. I myself came into this all in the 2013-ish Hedi Era and we’re now come full circle some 12 years later. I think a lot of guys reading don’t have the history to know how much is out there in the past & how often it gets recycled. Instead of approaching it from the “you should know this” angle, I tried a kinder “hey here are some cool older guys who did it well.” In terms of the “alphas,” you’re right that they don’t represent the mainstream menswear space, but the do represent the target demographic for the satirical aspect of this post: the guys who are single and dress in tight jeans and Jordan 1’s. The whole premise was how to avoid that by trying some new (old) things. I’m assuming that most people who read this know better and would see behind the surface to appreciate some good recs, while avoiding being too dismissive / sarcastic towards the guys whose wardrobes are giving off Andrew Tate energy. I tried to be an easier-than-usual entry point. In terms of the Mets, and by color association the Knicks, the orange / blue is garbage and I’ll die on that hill.

In most cases, because we don't want to bother.
Collectively, it's in our best interests to dress as poorly as possible, given that most of us have little interest in fashion and it lowers the bar for everyone else. Same way you'll often see women look down on women who dress too well and make the rest of them put in more effort. The more everyone dresses like crap, the less effort the rest of us have to put into dressing well.
This is one of the best men's fashion primers I've ever read in terms of advice that's super accessible. It's not too esoteric, it's not too expensive. It's just good advice. Thanks man!
